Can you give the sum of all the whole numbers that can be formed with the four digits 1, 2, 3 and 4? That is, the addition of all such numbers as 1,234, 1,324, 4,321, 3,421, etc. You can, of course, write them all out and make the addition, but the interest lies in finding a very simple rule for the sum of all the numbers that can be made with four different digits selected in every possible way, but with zero included.

THE SOLUTION

If you multiply 6,666 by the sum of the four given digits, you will get the correct answer. As 1, 2, 3 and 4 sum to 10, the required answer is 66,660.
